Work and projects

My work sits at the intersection of clinical practice, informatics and improvement. I'm interested in how we can design and evaluate digital tools that fit clinical work, support good decisions and make it easier for healthcare teams to communicate.

Clinical AI evaluation · CICADA

As lead developer of CICADA (Clinical Informatics Centre AI-Driven Analysis), I built a web tool to help researchers iteratively test large language model prompts against gold standards for benchmarking with clinical data.

Clinical decision support

I've worked on embedding and evaluating decision support in electronic medical records. An A/B test of an Epic alert aimed at improving goals-of-care documentation showed completion within 24 hours of admission increase from 77% to 90%. I also chair the Parkville Precinct Decision Support Advisory Committee, supporting decision support across four major academic health centres.

Ambient scribe pilot

I was a key project contact for the Royal Melbourne Hospital ambient scribe pilot, coordinating implementation, onboarding, support and analytics in partnership with Monash University. The pilot included more than 3,000 sessions and 45,000 minutes recorded.

Clinical communication

Working with the communicating for safety committee, I helped map resident and registrar roles to hospital teams and supported the rollout of urgent secure chat and new communication procedures. The work aimed to help clinical messages reach the right people more reliably.

MES-EMR · Melbourne Eye Specialists

I designed and developed a specialist ophthalmic electronic medical record, including note templates, disease-specific pages, discrete data collection and drawing tools. I led a team of four through implementation; the system has been in use since December 2019.

Open-access teaching

I'm a developer and project manager for the GONE Project, a free and open-source interactive program for teaching glaucoma optic disc assessment.

I've also developed an online Snellen chart that can be used on a phone.
